Colombia

The Sunset Grove began with the two of us, Fabio and María Fernanda. We grew up in the mountains of Colombia, surrounded by nature and with agriculture woven into our families and culture. That environment shaped our appreciation for where food comes from, and a respect for the patience and care that growing requires.

Escondido

In 2020, we came to the hills of Escondido, California, and became the stewards of a twenty-year-old avocado orchard. Today, our 13-acre grove is home to 1,200 Hass avocado trees whose canopy makes our coffee possible. At 1,550 feet above sea level, the grove overlooks the Pacific Ocean, where cooling marine air, morning fog, and long California summers create an extraordinary microclimate.

A year later, we planted Geisha and Catuaí beneath the avocado canopy. We didn’t come from coffee farming, but our Colombian roots gave us a deep connection to agriculture, harvest, and the culture surrounding coffee. Growing it ourselves became a new chapter, one shaped by research, observation, experimentation, and an immense respect for the craft.

Every season is an opportunity to learn. Guided by our Colombian heritage and shaped by what we continue to discover here in California, we approach coffee with curiosity, intention, and respect for the land. Each harvest deepens our understanding of this hillside and reveals a little more of what California-grown coffee can become.
