We farm in harmony with nature. We prioritize living soil. We strive to go beyond organic.
We believe farming is more than preserving what already exists, it is the opportunity to restore and regenerate the land for generations to come.
Every decision we make begins with the soil. Healthy soil stores water more efficiently, supports the microorganisms that nourish our trees, and creates the conditions for healthy, flavorful, and nutrient-rich food. By caring for what lies beneath our feet, we strengthen everything that grows above it.
Across the grove, we encourage biodiversity, return organic matter to the soil, minimize disturbance, and work with nature rather than against it. Every decision is guided by the long-term health of the land.
The Sunset Grove has been certified organic by CCOF since January 2023, and the certificate covers everything we do, from the trees to the roaster. Organic is where we start. Beyond it is the living soil, the canopy, the cover crops and the wild fermentation that no certificate measures.
Every season is an opportunity to learn. By combining generations of coffee-growing knowledge with the unique climate and landscape of California, we are helping shape the future of California-grown specialty coffee. Every harvest reveals a little more of what this land has to say.
Listening to the land
We came to California with a deep connection to the land shaped by our Colombian roots. We didn’t come from coffee farming, but we carried with us a respect for agriculture, for the rhythm of the harvest, and for doing things with care and intention.
When we planted our first coffee trees, we became students of this hillside. We learned through research and experience, but most of all through observation, watching how the trees respond to our climate, our soil, the seasons, and the choices we make as farmers.
Every season is an opportunity to experiment, observe, and learn. Some things work, others ask us to adjust, and each harvest reveals a little more about what coffee grown here can become.
Our role is not to force the land into becoming something it isn’t. It is to care for it thoughtfully, work in harmony with its natural systems, and give it the opportunity to express itself.
Because coffee is not only about what we know.
It is about what this land continues to teach us.

The Things We Don’t Harvest
Not everything that grows here is meant for us.
Over the past few years, we’ve been intentionally introducing native plants throughout the grove to create habitat for the insects and wildlife that belong to this region.
Through the San Diego Pollinator Alliance, we’ve worked with the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County to bring native plants into the farm, creating new sources of food and shelter for native pollinators and beneficial insects.
These plants aren’t here for us to harvest. They’re here to flower, spread, provide habitat, and become part of the grove. As they establish, we’re watching more native insects find their way among the trees and seeing another layer of life take shape around us.
For us, regeneration isn’t only about improving what we grow. It’s also about creating space for everything that grows alongside us.
